First Fire Drill  

Fire drills help students and staff learn and practice important skills to stay safe during a fire emergency. As a school, we are required to complete six fire drills throughout the school year, and this past week was our first one. Students and staff exited the building quickly, calmly, and quietly. Well done, everyone!  

Meet the Teacher – Thursday Sept. 24 - Booking Opens Sept. 14 

We are excited to invite you to our Meet the Teacher Evening on Thursday, September 24, 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, see their learning space and learn more about the year ahead. You will also have an opportunity to meet the grade team, Music specialist, and school administrators.  There will also be a bookfair that families can shop at during this event.  Please note that Meet the Teacher is not a time where we report on student learning as teachers and students have not had enough time to work through a full learning cycle yet and these are group sessions. If you have specific questions or concerns that you would like to speak with the teacher about, please reach out to them directly and they can set up a time to have a private, uninterrupted conversation with you. 

Details: 

  • Date: Thursday, September 24 
  • Time: 3 sessions, each 30 minutes in length – at 5:00, 5:30 & 6:00 
  • Format: book one of the 3 group sessions for each of your children through conference manager – using your MyCBE Account 

 

Conference Booking opens at 7:00 am, on Monday, September 14 and closes on September 24 at 5:00 PM. We encourage you to book early to secure a time that works best for your family.

Toonies for Terry 

On September 18th, our school will be participating in a Terry Fox Run. Terry Fox was a Canadian who began the Marathon of Hope in 1980 to raise money and awareness for cancer research after losing his leg to cancer. 

As part of our Toonies for Terry fundraiser, families who would like to participate can send a toonie ($2) to school. The school will collect the donations and make a contribution to support cancer research and the Terry Fox Foundation. 

Donations are completely optional. All students will participate in the Terry Fox Run regardless of whether they bring in a donation. We are looking forward to celebrating Terry's incredible spirit of perseverance and helping our students learn about the importance of giving back to our community! 

Complete Online Forms by Sep. 14 

There are a number of forms that parents/guardians need to complete each year. This includes a demographic verification, and various other annual authorization and consent forms. These can be accessed using your MyCBE account. Please submit these forms  for your child by Monday, Sep. 14. These demographic verification forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education and Childcare to confirm student funding. 

If you have any questions, please contact the office at 403-777-6061. We thank you for completing the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms for the 2026-27 school year.  

Student Health Forms 

If your child has any health issues that the school should be aware of or that may impact your child’s attention, please complete a Student Health Plan form. This includes if medication is needed while at school.  For students with a life-threatening condition, parents are also asked to complete a Student Health Emergency Response Protocol.  Please complete and return these to the school as soon as possible. Contact the school if you have any questions about this. 

 

Volunteering   

All school volunteers are required to have a police security clearance completed.  Once completed, this security clearance is good for 5 years. All school volunteers are also required to complete an annual volunteer registration form. To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. 

  

The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities. 

 Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form. 

 New This Year: Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer. This change allows school staff to verify that volunteers have reviewed and acknowledged their privacy obligations under Alberta's Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).  Community members without a child in the system should be directed to the school where they wish to volunteer to complete their registration in person.   

 

Lunchroom 

If your child stays for lunch please complete the lunchroom registration using your MyCBE account.  For additional information about lunchroom, please use the following link:  Panorama Hills Lunchroom Program. 

 

Literacy and Numeracy Screeners  

From September 14 to October 2, schools are required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings to all kindergarten to grade 5 students. Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that develop in the critical early years of education. Screening students’ learning in literacy and numeracy in their early years provides critical information to teachers, parents, and Alberta Education and Childcare to help children and students get additional support if they need it. Please see the letter attached for detailed information.  

Online Learning Series for Families 

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community. 

 Attached to this email is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Additional session details are available on our corporate website: Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Series. 

 

School Council Meeting 

Our first school council and Parent Society meeting will be on Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 PM in the learning commons.  All Panorama Hills school parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
