Alien In-line Skating Residency

Our Alien In-Line Skating Residency started this week and will continue for the next three weeks! Students will have the opportunity to participate in three one-hour in-line skating sessions during the residency. Students are welcome to bring a helmet from home if they would like to use their own. We’re excited to see our students have fun, build their skating skills, and enjoy this active learning experience! If you would like to volunteer to support your child’s class during the skating sessions, please make sure you have the required volunteer clearance in place ahead of time.

Picture Day Oct 6

A friendly reminder that Tuesday, October 6 is Picture Day! Please have your child come to school ready for their school photo. We look forward to capturing some special memories of our students!

Halloween Dance - School Council

Our School Council is excited to host the upcoming Halloween Dance on Friday, October 23rd, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, bringing students and families together for an evening of fun, connection, and community spirit! The Halloween Dance will be held in our school gym. Families can look forward to a festive atmosphere with Halloween-themed dance and student artwork displayed throughout the Grand Hall. We look forward to celebrating together and thank our School Council and parent volunteers for making this event possible!

Remembrance Day Assembly – Pictures of Veterans Needed

Our Remembrance Day committee is creating a slideshow that will be played during our upcoming Remembrance Day ceremony that will show pictures of family members who have served in the military.  If you have a member of your family who has served in the military, we would love to be able to honour them by including their picture in our slideshow. Any digital pictures that you would like to share can be emailed to Brynna Doucette at BryDoucette@cbe.ab.ca . Please also include the person’s military title with the photograph.  All Parents/Guardians are invited to join our assembly on Nov 10.

Grade 3 Community Walk

For their first Ridge Walk, Grade 3 students used their five senses to explore the land through a “Notice, Think, Wonder” approach. As part of their Science unit on Matter, students observed and identified natural and human-made materials around them. Each teacher and class focused on a specific observation spot that they will revisit during future walks to notice changes over time and deepen their connection to the land.

During the walk, students discussed how relationships with the land guide interactions with natural materials for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. Through these experiences, students are developing a deeper understanding that processed materials are modified from natural materials and do not occur naturally in the environment.

Orange Shirt Day

On Orange Shirt Day, our students and staff participated in various activities to honor the children who were taken from their families and communities and to remember the lasting impacts of residential schools. Wearing orange on Orange Shirt Day honors Survivors of residential schools, remembers the children who never returned home, and acknowledges the lasting impacts of residential schools on families and communities. The orange shirt is a symbol of the culture, language, identity, and freedom that were taken from Indigenous children, and a reminder that Every Child Matters.  Students and staff wore orange to show that every child matters and to support learning, understanding, and reconciliation. Through stories, conversations, art and learning activities, we continue to build a school community grounded in respect, belonging, and care for one another.

Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

For the 2026–2027 school year, Panorama Hills School will support staff in deepening their understanding of Indigenous knowledges, languages, histories, and teaching methods and integrating them into classroom learning. We will build understanding of Indigenous values such as reciprocity and respect and strengthen relationships with Indigenous students, families, Elders, community members, and the land. We will also engage students, staff, and families in learning about the land where our school is located and taking meaningful action toward Truth and Reconciliation through our CBE Land Acknowledgement. Please see the link on our school website PHS TRC.

We invite our families to be part of this learning journey. We welcome your ideas, perspectives, and suggestions about how Panorama Hills School can continue to strengthen our learning and actions toward Truth and Reconciliation.
