Principal's Message
Dear PHS Families,
I am thrilled to be back at PHS and have quickly moved into our routines and processes. It was wonderful to see students enjoying our Alien Inline Skating and to see the ‘buzz’ of learning taking place in the classrooms. Just a few reminders:
Cold Weather
It looks like our weather will be shifting next week. Please be reminded of our Cold Weather Policy. When our weather (including wind chill) reaches –20 degrees Celsius we will keep our students inside. This will also be in effect for our Patrols. Autumn weather in Calgary is often unpredictable, so please send your children to school with full winter gear (boots, snow pants, parka, mitts, scarves, hats etc.). As our weather changes, we will continue to take students outside for learning opportunities over and above scheduled recess times. Please help us make these experiences successful by sending your children to school with appropriate attire. We will still be accessing the outdoors for PE, community walks and learning where possible so we want students to be comfortable.
Safety After Hours
Each year we are presented with certain challenges which take place outside school hours. We know that our playground is accessed by many families during these times. As such, there are times when conflicts arise which are beyond our ability to address. Here are some ways you can keep your children safe if you should see activity or behaviour which is dangerous or inappropriate:
· Supervise your children at the playground while they learn to play independently should a problem arise
· Teach them to come home when there are problems so that they can be coached
· Call police if there are serious problems that can’t be addressed in other ways
We know that sending our children out to play after school hours is part of building independence, however, having strategies for when problems arise is part of building problem solving skills in these situations.
Have a wonderful week,
Ms. Paull
