Principal’s Message
September has sped by. It was a busy month welcoming our new students and staff as we re-organized to meet our student’s needs. We were projected to have 547 students, but our final registration number just over 520 students. My most recent numbers are as follows:
Kindergarten: | 64 |
Grade 1: | 73 |
Grade 2: | 97 |
Grade 3: | 99 |
Grade 4: | 81 |
Grade 5: | 107 |
Staffing is almost complete as I have added a new Physical Education teaching position, two Educational Assistances, a Library Assistant and soon a new Assistant Principal. My final budget will be made available to me in mid-October. Upon receipt of that budget, there could be further staffing changes.
I am very appreciative of the warm welcome and very smooth start-up. Classes are organized into grade groups, with children being assigned a communication teacher. This will be the teacher that parent’s will have their initial contact, though all teachers in that grade group will be teaching your child. Please feel free to contact that teacher with any questions or concerns or information you might have.
Thank you to all the parents who came to the Meet the Teacher in September. This was an information sharing conference. Student Led Conferences will be held November 28 & 29. More information about that will follow.

Smile
Put on your outfit and comb your hair! Picture Day is this Tuesday, Oct 1.
Fee Payment
School fees will be added to your MyCBE account the week of October
These fees include the following: Instructional supplies and materials - $20.00 for kindergarten, $40.00 for Grades 1 – 6. These fees cover the cost of all expendable supplies that your child will use throughout the year. This is a good deal as you would not be able to go and buy the number of materials that are used in a year at this price. You can apply for a waiver for this fee.
School Council Meeting
Our first School Council meeting of the year was held on Thursday, September 19.
These meetings are an opportunity to hear firsthand about what is happening in the school and to give voice with your ideas and questions. It is an opportunity to hear from teacher representatives as well as the admin team. The School Council has always been a strong supporter of the school with fund raising events and casino earnings.
Your voice is valued, and we hope to see you there in person or online. All parents are strongly encouraged and warmly invited to attend.
For more information and fundraising opportunities please visit the Panorama Hills School council/society Facebook page!
Morning Supervision
Please be advised that there is no supervision for children on the playground in the morning. It is strongly advised that if you bring your child to
school earlier than 8:00 that you stay with them until teachers open the doors at 8:00 or you do not bring your child to the school before 8:00. There is also no supervision on
the playground after school.
Morning Relaxed Entry
Side doors open at 8:00 AM, and students are welcome to enter through either side door and head to class. Please remember that the doors close promptly at 8:10 AM. Students arriving after this time will need to go to the front office for a late slip.
Dressing for the Weather
Unless it is a torrential downpour or colder than -20 with wind chill, students at Panorama Hills School go outside at recess and lunch. Children need to play outside. Therefore, you are requested to dress your child accordingly for the weather, basing it on the assumption they will be going outside.
Washroom Etiquette
Using the washroom is a part of our school day, and it's important to do so with respect and kindness! Here are some simple guidelines to teach your child to help everyone have a positive experience:
- Wait Your Turn: Be patient and wait your turn if the washroom is busy. Remember to respect others’ privacy.
- Know the equipment: Use the appropriate washroom fixtures. Does your child know how to use the urinal and/or toilet?
- Keep It Clean: Always flush the toilet or urinal after using it. If you see any mess, let a teacher know so it can be cleaned up.
- Wash Your Hands: After using the toilet, wash your hands with soap and water. Place the paper towel in the recycle bin. This helps keep everyone healthy!
- Be Quick: Try to be efficient and don’t spend too much time in the washroom. Everyone deserves a chance to use it.
- No Horseplay: The washroom is not a place for playing or loud talking. Keep the noise down to respect others
- Respect Privacy: Give others space and do not peek into stalls or disrupt anyone’s privacy.
- Report Issues: If something is broken, messy or needs attention, tell a teacher right away.
Lost & Found
Please, please, please label your child’s coats, lunch kits, etc. The number of articles that go into our lost and found is very concerning. In trying to teach responsibility to your child, we encourage you to speak to them about the importance of caring for their clothing items.
