November 5, 2023 Dear PHS Families, Thanks to all the parents who joined our Council and Society meetings this past Thursday. We truly appreciate your participation in the event planning for the year, fundraising and input. SSAP Every spring, the Calgary Board of Education produces the Three-Year System Student Accommodation Plan (SSAP) report. This report helps identify schools that are facing student accommodation challenges, such as overcrowding, a decline in enrollment, or a shift in the demographic makeup of the student body. These challenges may affect one or more schools and require careful consideration. Panorama Hills School has been identified in the CBE’s 2023-26 SSAP. In developing the SSAP each year, CBE examines current trends of enrolment growth and decline in programs (including regular and alternative programs), the demographic composition of new and established communities, community growth/decline, birth data, student enrolment projections and other contextual factors. This allows us to analyze the educational opportunities for students in relation to where they live. Why is our school part of the 2023-2026 SSAP? The student population at Panorama Hills School is meeting and/or surpassing the school's capacity. On last year's SSAP, Panorama Hills School was categorized as a long-term project, indicating that we have been closely monitoring the enrolment situation to determine if any solutions need to be implemented to address the growing number of students. This year we have seen increased enrolment at our school and have been moved to the short-term projects list on the 2023-26 SSAP. The short- term list includes schools where changes may be needed within the next 18 months. We are exploring solutions to address the high enrolment. As we move forward, we will keep you informed of any changes or new information we receive. More Than A Ticket - Opportunity for students and families to attend events Kids Up Front offers Calgary students and their families various opportunities to attend sports games, concerts and other events through the More Than A Ticket program. This program supports students and families, who may not have access to ticketed events, enjoy exciting concerts, performances and sports games throughout the year. While CBE and Panorama Hills School are not ticket agents and we do not distribute tickets directly to students or families, we wanted you to be aware of this list of KUF agency partners who do distribute tickets. Each agency partner has a designated “ticket contact", who is responsible for the distribution of tickets.
Donations Our students use a specific type of ultra fine sharpie pens and we are fortunate that council has funded these pens for every classroom. However, we are looking for donations to replenish our supply over the course of the year. Please refer to the photo in the link below for the type of fineliner that would work for our students’ work. These pens are often used in the student visual journals and other work such as posters, art work etc.
Sincerely, Ms. Paull and Ms Muir
