February 19, 2024 Dear PHS Families, We hope your extended weekend provided a rest and break for each of you. We look forward to seeing our students again! As we move into this next week, please be reminded that the Grade 4/5 students will be skiing on Tuesday, February 20. Please ensure they are wearing snow pants, a winter coat, warm mitts and socks etc. It looks like we will have beautiful weather for our ski day, but it will be wet, and students will be much more comfortable in the proper clothing. Please send spare socks or clothing as you see fit. Also, Ms. Chang’s class will finish their last four days at Seed School (Open Minds). These events are the result of an incredible amount of planning and organization. We thank our teachers who see the value in this learning and have volunteered many hours of their time for our students. Open Minds proposals are accepted based on a lottery, so teacher work commences without knowing if their projects will even be selected. Thanks also to Ms. Kee for taking the lead on the ski trip. Grade 4/5 Opera Updates: CALGARY OPERA TICKETS Parents and guardians of Grade 4 and 5 students are invited to attend the evening performance of our opera: “Prepare for Impact!” on May 16 at 6:00 pm. We have 8 classes of students who will be performing, which includes approximately 200 students. Due to the Maximum Occupant Load of 600 in the gym (which includes the performers and staff), we need to limit the number of people we can seat in the audience. At this point we can guarantee 2 tickets per family for students in grade 4 and grade 5. This means, if there is one grade 4 or 5 child, there are 2 tickets for guests and if there are two grade 4 or 5 siblings, there are still 2 tickets for guests.
If families would like to bring more guests, we will be starting a “wait list”. At the beginning of May, if we have extra tickets available, we will call people on the wait list and distribute extra tickets. Please remember that younger siblings who attend PHS will already watch the afternoon performance on May 16. The evening performance is intended for parents/guardians, so they have an opportunity to watch their children perform.
If you anticipate wanting additional tickets for the evening show, please email our secretary, Mrs. Grant, starting Tuesday, February 20 and indicate the number of additional tickets you are requesting. Ms. Grant will put your name on a wait list in the order the emails are received.
Please stay tuned for more information at the beginning of May. We are looking forward to sharing our learning with you!
