Principals’ Message – November 2024 Dear Families, With November’s arrival and the cooler weather settling in, it’s a great time to reflect and appreciate the season. We’re incredibly proud of our students’ dedication this term and the way they support one another in learning. We’d also like to thank each of you for all the ways you support our school—making sure students are ready for the day, fundraising, and volunteering at events. Your involvement makes a real difference! This month, we have some exciting events planned, including an assembly, school council sponsored ‘Movie Night’ and school-wide activities focused on teamwork, safety, respect, and empathy. Our goal is to make sure each student feels welcomed and valued. As the weather continues to get colder, please remember to send your children with their coats, hats, and gloves to keep warm during recess and outdoor activities. As always, if you have any thoughts, questions, or ideas, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s to a great month filled with growth and connection! Warmly, Scott Jeffrey Vicky Law
Welcome to Our New Assistant Principal, Vicky Law! We are thrilled to welcome Vicky Law as our new Assistant Principal! With a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to supporting students, staff, and families, Mrs. Law is excited to join our school community. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome! Remembrance Day Assembly Our Remembrance Day Assembly is a special time for us to honour and remember those who have served to keep our country safe. Grade 2 and 3 students will host the school wide assembly on November 7th to show respect and gratitude. This is a time for PHS to come together as a school community to learn about the importance of peace and remembrance. We hope to instill a sense of gratitude and respect for the sacrifices made and help students appreciate the importance of peace and unity. Fall Break Calgary families can look forward to a special Fall Break from November 8th to November 13th for students in the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). This time off is perfect for students, teachers, and staff to relax and recharge before winter. Families can enjoy autumn activities together, like exploring local parks filled with colorful leaves or having cozy evenings at home with books, crafts, or fun game nights. It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to take a breather and return to school refreshed and ready to learn! Panorama Hills School Council and Society Meeting We invite all parents to join us for the Panorama Hills School Council and Society meeting on November 21st at 6:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow parents, share your ideas, and learn more about what’s happening at our school. You can attend either in person at the school or online from the comfort of your home. Your voice matters, and we look forward to seeing you there! Lockdown Drill On November 25th, the Calgary Police Service will be guiding a lockdown practice with our students and staff. This drill is designed to help everyone learn how to stay safe in case of an emergency. During this practice, students will be aware that it’s just a drill and that they are safe. It’s important that students listen closely and follow the instructions of the adult supervising them. If you have any questions or concerns about this practice, please feel free to call the school or email sdjeffrey@cbe.ab.ca. Friendly Reminder: Parent-Teacher Conferences! We are excited to announce that Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on the evening of November 28th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on November 29th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet with teachers, discuss your child's progress, and collaborate on ways to support their learning. Parents will be able to book their conference times later in November. Stay tuned for more details! We look forward to seeing you there! Grade 3-5 Movie Night On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Panorama Hills School will host a fun and cozy Movie Night for students in Grades 3-5! We’re thrilled to be showing The Garfield Movie, so get ready for some laughs and family-friendly entertainment. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the movie starting promptly at 6:45 p.m. To ensure a safe and enjoyable evening, all children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the movie. With only 250 tickets available, seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t miss out! Please remember that tickets and concessions will not be sold at the door, so be sure to purchase them in advance through the School Council. Siblings in other grades or those not yet attending PHS are welcome to join! And if it happens to snow, please help keep our school tidy by leaving shoes at the front entrance. We look forward to seeing you there for a night of community, laughter, and a classic movie! Hug and Go Zone Guidelines For a safe and smooth drop-off experience, we’d like to remind families about using the Hug and Go zone on Panorama Hills Dr NW, near the playground.
Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and efficient start to everyone’s day! Crosswalk Safety – Point, Pause, Proceed For safer crossings, always use designated crosswalks and follow pedestrian signals. Our crosswalks are clearly marked with signs and connect to sidewalks at intersections. Be sure vehicles have stopped before stepping onto the road, and only cross when clear of vehicles. Remember the three steps for extra safety: Point, Pause, and Proceed. Point to where you plan to cross, pause to check both ways, and then proceed when it’s safe. Please note that crossing outside a crosswalk means vehicles have the right of way, and jaywalking may lead to fines or injuries. Lost & Found Overflow Alert! Our Lost and Found is filling up faster than popcorn at movie night! Jackets, water bottles, hats—oh my! If your household is missing a few items (or your child suddenly insists they’ve never owned that sweater), please have your child swing by to take a look. Claim your treasures before they decide to call our school home! Thank You! Panorama Hills School Council We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued dedication and support of our school community. Your commitment makes such a positive impact on our students and staff, and we are so grateful for all you do to enhance the learning environment and opportunities at Panorama Hills. As we move forward, we would like to invite more members of our community to join the School Council. Becoming a part of the council is a wonderful way to stay engaged, share ideas, and help shape the future of our school. Whether you can lend your voice, skills, or time, we welcome your involvement at any level. Thank you again for your incredible contributions. We look forward to working together to make this year a success for all our students!
